[Break is sitting on his windowsill, blissfully unaware of the fact that the PCD has turned on where it's sitting on his desk. He reaches one of his legs out, barefoot, stretching so it makes it past the shelter of the awning and out into the raindrops falling outside.

Amusing himself like this for a few seconds longer, he keeps a tight hold on the frame for balance.

The whirr of the PCD eventually alters him to the fact that it's running. He glances over his shoulder sharply.]

... a friend of mine came back. She'd been here for almost a year, and she disappeared... but she came back just a little while ago.

I've known her since I was a little kid.

... she's been here a handful of times. Every time, I get to show her that I have a face!

[Soft laugh.]

And how does she react?

[This sounds like a nice story.]

She hugs me. She cries a little. Sometimes, she tells me I'm beautiful.

When we were visiting once, back home, she promised me that when I got my body back, the first thing she would do is bake me an apple pie.

... every time she comes. She remembers. And it always tastes like home.

[Emily squawks, angrily. He shushes her.]

[Al jumps enough for the feed to thud and catch his gasp. He kind of forgot about Emily for a moment there, fsldfkjas.]

Ah -- I. Yes.

Do you... want to talk about them, maybe?

[She's usually good for that reaction. Hearing it is gratifying- Break smirks.]

The only person who has ever been here from my world was Oz.

[Al huffs, he doesn't even.]

What's Oz like?

Young. Altruistic. Selfish. Stupid. Insightful beyond his years. Possessed, twice over. Ultimately quite kind, and really truly cruel.

Contradictory.

Those are the best kinds of people.

How did you meet?

I rescued him from the Abyss.

Abyss? And... how?

The place where the Chains live.

And really, he rescued himself. I just happened to be trying at the same time as he was.

Sounds like it's part of a much bigger story.

Oh yes.

Murderous fathers, possession, human tragedy, destroyed cities, chains, contracts, memories, poisoners-

Sounds like you've led an exciting life.

[Though there is a note of that young excitement over the prospect of adventure -- there is also that touch in his tone that says Alphonse has some grasp of the difficulty and pain that goes with it.]

I bet you have all kinds of stories.

Not as many as you'd think. I think in the grand scheme of things, Oz is the protagonist. I'm the- aged mentor.

[Giggling.]

Mentors are supposed to be old, serious guys.

[HE KNOWS BETTER, but.]
