I'm setting up communal clotheslines here, for anyone whose bedding is waterlogged. Bring as much strong wire or string as you can if you can find it.

We work best when we aid one another.

[Any remark Lucifer thinks of making seems self-pitying, so he just doesn't. Instead he changes the subject, his tone still light and conversational.]

How many do you have staying with you now?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure, to be honest. Either four or five.
thelightbringer: (smirk)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
[A sound almost like a laugh]

You don't seem the type not to know who's padding around your bunker.

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
They come and go quickly, inviting one another in, fighting and fluttering off. New family, new friends, one sent home one minute, one dead the next. I can't always differentiate.
thelightbringer: (boxed up)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He nods thoughtfully]

Some things are easier not to keep track of here I suppose. You seem to handle all the little changes better than most. So many minds here are so preoccupied with their losses....

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
What changes?

[He laughs.]

Nothing of any importance ever shifts.
thelightbringer: (devil's playground)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
What do you consider 'important' then?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Actual quality of life, meaningful social structures.
thelightbringer: (my my)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
Social structures aren't all that meaningful. Humans change them every hundred years or so.

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
The permanence of something doesn't actually have anything to do with it's meaning. As lasting or transient as they may be, a great deal of human existence is spent invested in navigating social structures. To us, they are very meaningful.
thelightbringer: (what did you think would happen?)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:44 am (UTC)(link)
[He leans back on one hand.]

Enlighten me. Which structures do you promote?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
I personally don't.

But I do inhabit them.
thelightbringer: (envy is a pretty shade of green)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Such as?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
My current house is a little commune.
thelightbringer: (huh)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
And your future home?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
If you helped me build it you could come visit?
thelightbringer: (bite me 007)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:55 am (UTC)(link)
How far off the grid are you going?

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
Not far. I'm still stupidly- not self-sufficient.
thelightbringer: (i'll just smile and nod)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
No one here is.

But peanut butter helps. [He's speaking from experience now.]

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Personal favourite?
thelightbringer: (what did you think would happen?)

[personal profile] thelightbringer 2011-08-15 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
That and carrots.

What is the first thing you ever remember eating? Can you remember? Do human minds... [gesturing vaguely] allow it?

Oh thank you!

Break, I can just waterbend the water out of the clothes people bring.

[identity profile] mister-hatter.livejournal.com 2011-08-15 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Human minds don't tend to, no. Most of us have a first food memory, but that's the first time we remember food, not the first time we had it.

I remember being given sweet corn, right off the cob, at a city festival.

Quite welcome. Come by at any time.
