Social structures aren't all that meaningful. Humans change them every hundred years or so.

The permanence of something doesn't actually have anything to do with it's meaning. As lasting or transient as they may be, a great deal of human existence is spent invested in navigating social structures. To us, they are very meaningful.

What is the first thing you ever remember eating? Can you remember? Do human minds... [gesturing vaguely] allow it?

Human minds don't tend to, no. Most of us have a first food memory, but that's the first time we remember food, not the first time we had it.

I remember being given sweet corn, right off the cob, at a city festival.

All angels know what things taste like. It's not the same as tasting them with a vessel.

There was a plant, millions of years before humans were created, that had white and pink berries the size of your hand. The taste of it was indescribable; I could say it's like melon and banana and raspberry jam, but it wasn't. Not really.

I used to sit under the leaves and watch the fruit grow. But I wonder now what it would have been like to truly taste one.

Lucifer, try. What's the worst thing that'll happen? It'll take a little too much like melon?

[Nudging him with an elbow.]

I want to try it. I haven't eaten.

[It shouldn't come as any surprise to learn that Lucifer is a perfectionist, in the strictest sense of the word. But he also knows he paid more attention to the plants back then than his brothers did; it wouldn't help to ask their opinions.

He sighs, and as he exhales a deep green leaf big enough to cover both their laps appears. In its center, growing up from a pale green stem, is a white berry the size of Break's fist.]
