[The device flicks on. Static.

Then, purple- only purple. White. Break's coat, the beautiful off-the-shoulder, white one that he lost almost a year ago during that episode with all of the blood. It's back in one piece.]

What-

[Then the feed flicks off. On again, very briefly, as he bangs it on the table. Sound.

Then to video- there's Break's elbow, Emily's dress.

On. Rap rap rap. Someone's knocking it against a table to see if it can be broken open.]

-why does it keep chirping, Emily?

[This is almost exactly how he arrived, nearly two years ago to the day. And here we are, come full circle, about to smash the PCD on a table corner in idle, non-technologically oriented curiosity.]

What people know about me.

... quite a few knew that you were sick, but not why. Some, mostly those you lived with, knew you were blind.

I assume Lucifer knows nearly everything about you, considering who he is. Yuca will know a bit- he was your roommate for some time. I'll tell you about him in detail. He's the reason we started speaking in depth.

Katara knows at least a bit of it.

[Al pauses to move something else. It's a few seconds before he goes on.]

... I know that you are incredibly cruel and incredibly kind, utterly selfish and completely selfless, that you are always the first to say what needs to said but nobody wants to hear. I know you are brave to the point of recklessness, and you will always push yourself and everyone around you. I know you have a soft spot for children, but never underestimate them.

I know about Hatter, about the Abyss, about the Chains. I know about Pandora and the people you work with.

I also know why you're blind, why you're sick... and I know how you lost your eye. I know who you were before Xerxes Break.

[A heartbeat.]

Then you must know-

[Stepping in close, voice soft, conspiratorial, almost kind;]

-what will happen to you if you breathe a word of it.

Everyone has a right to their own secrets.

[Al assures him, voice steady and unafraid.]

I've promised keep yours safe. I know that right now I haven't earned your trust, or even the right to know these things about you. But I can promise you that there was a reason the first time, and I can also promise that I'll do everything I can to earn it all over again.

Good boy.

[Giving his cheek an eerily unerring pat.]

[Al takes his hand for a moment on reflex, then quickly lets it go. His breathing is just the barest touch uneven. It's hard to say with what.]

It's strange to hear you say that again.

[Softly.]

Don't tell me you had a crush.

No.

[... Al still can't lie worth a damn.]

... at one point an event put us in a compromising position, but other than that, no.

Poor nibblet. I'll be sensitive to your-

[It's very hard not to snap back. Al grits his teeth and keeps moving, out of Break's reach, and stops talking completely.]

Oh?

[Stalking after him.]

I don't want to talk about it.

[Quietly, and he hopes, steadily. If he starts tearing up right now-]

No, I suppose that'd be bad form, with a recently-murderous partner about. Wouldn't want to bring his tally to two!

[Al spins in his tracks, and only very narrowly manages to control himself in time to prevent himself from laying Break flat on the ground and bloody. His voice is dark, angry and icy; something his warm, kind tones sound pained to produce.]

Because of the trust and respect I previously held for you, I will try very hard to forgive you for saying that.

But if you're going to try to bite into me to gain distance because you're uncomfortable with me knowing things that neither of us have control over me knowing -- you need to keep your comments to me. My family knows absolutely nothing about you, so don't hurt them over something you're upset with me over.

Oh, I see, your relationship with me is entirely masochistic? You want to let me hurt you, and pretend it doesn't affect anyone else, do you?

[Taunting, fingers pressing right into the wound.]

I get to bite and bite as long as it's just at you? Do you really think you get to point me in the direction you choose and let me loose? It is not safe to have me here, and if you're afraid of a sharp word or two about the little killer, then you have to tell me to leave, Ally-kins.

[And this time, Al doesn't bother to hold back. He's fast, strong, and already turned and within distance of where he needs to be. His fist may not be leather and metal any longer, but he knows exactly where to put it in order to take someone off their feet.]

[Break crumples like a dying man.]

[Al doesn't follow him down. In fact he steps back, breathing out, knowing Break has wicked reach with his cane and is faster and stronger than he looks.

He doesn't say a word, doesn't apologize.]

Wow. Didn't see that one coming~

[He taunts, rolling his jaw, prodding it experimentally as he sits up, rasping. A second to reorient himself, and he's on his feet, reaching out to find the wall.]

[The only response for a moment is a deep sigh. He lets Break reorient himself completely up, waiting for him.]

[He turns and starts tracing the wall back towards the front door, serenely.]

[Al lingers for a few moments, making sure that Break can get himself around. He's been known to knock people out like that -- he could have really hurt him.]

[He's leaning on the wall rather heavily. The world is dark- but still seems to spin somehow. T he doorknob takes a second to find.]

[It's just some random house. Al feels a clench in his heart, and goes after him.]

... I'll leave after I'm done, but I need to make sure you're safe here.
