[voice] an idle curiosity in the middle of the night

If you could make the choice to lose one memory, what would it be?

If you don't feel like sharing the details of that moment, answer this instead- if you were really given the choice, not hypothetically in the future, but today, with all the realities and consequences you face, would you let the moment go? And would it change you?

How much of our darkest moments make us what we are?

Not so long ago, some of us lost parts of our memories. Nearly everyone wanted to remember. If something had affected you enough to make you want to forget it forever, and then you did, you would be changed - but the effect of the memory would remain. Only a fool wouldn't eventually notice that something was missing.

Can you imagine what trouble that could cause for the person affected?

I don't need to imagine, I've lived it.

Oh, really? Then what are your thoughts?

It was rather the same as losing the eye. When I chop onions, I still dab at the empty socket.

Yes. It might be gone, but you'll still act as if it were there. The only difference is that with memories you won't know why.
