If you could make the choice to lose one memory, what would it be?

If you don't feel like sharing the details of that moment, answer this instead- if you were really given the choice, not hypothetically in the future, but today, with all the realities and consequences you face, would you let the moment go? And would it change you?

Interestin' question. Sure, losin' an important memory would change ya... but anything you do can change ya. The question's more whether somebody thinks they'd like the change.

That's a very interesting perspective.

So why do ya ask? Curiosity?

Mostly. Perhaps I'm looking for advice.

I wouldn't recommend tradin' in memories unless you're gettin' something good in return.

I don't intend to give up any of them.

Then what kind of advice are you lookin' for?

What I might expect now that they're gone.

Livin' without something that used to be important to you -- memories, people, whatever it might be... that's not easy. It'll change ya.

But you'll get by without 'em. Life means changin', adaptin' to what comes. Even if you might not've chosen ta lose them, the loss doesn't make ya somebody else. It just means you'll need to find a way ta compensate for what's gone. New connections, new memories... they'll come if ya let 'em.

Ah, an optimist.

Guess you could give up an' die if you'd rather. Seems like a waste to me.

Drat. That was my plan.

Thing is, there's no middle ground. If you keep goin' - keep livin' with each moment as it passes - you'll find out how ta enjoy life with what you've got now. Try an' cling to somethin' you can't get back, and the loss'll destroy ya.

It isn't nearly that simple.

So, how about you tell me, then? Don't mind hearin' it from the horse's mouth.

This is the second time I've had to fight to remember. The first time, no, I didn't like what I found.

So you're tryin' to figure out if it's worth making the effort this time.

Or if I should outright avoid it, yes.

That's a call nobody else can make for ya. Sometimes it might be better ta move forward... just depends on how much you value who you were.

I suppose I'll just have to keep weighing.
