[Like so many others will this week, Break wakes up screaming. The PCD isn't pointed at the bed, so it doesn't capture anything but sound until he scrambles off of it, past the camera and towards the window, throwing it open to get fresh air.

This all hits a little close to home.]

Why-

[He asks, hoarsely, a few minutes later,]

-does the network insist on displaying our grief? The timing is too consistent to be accidental.

[Handing him two plates full.]

I'll meet you up there with the tea tray.

[A flicker, and he's gone. Upstairs he sets the tray on an old table that's barely stable enough for use, and looks at their surroundings.]

Is it still cloudy out?

[Calling, as he makes his way up the stairs.]

Yes. It's not raining yet. [Or snowing. More likely to snow, this time of year, actually isn't it?]

The weather is about to turn.

[He decides, emerging to set the tray on the little patio table.]

It's about time.

[He doesn't move to help, of course. It's not like Break needs it in any case, but he sits down and nudges a chair out for Break--to be polite. One of his infrequent but odd little quirks.]

As charming and useful as a pound or so of your flesh sounds, I'd rather you helped me prepare for the season.

No [chuckling softly] I've never needed to. Why?

It's gratifying. And a very good way to recover from a disappointment.

[He hums thoughtfully, accepting the idea and toying with his teacup]

When were you last disappointed?

A lady never reveals her age.

They do if they know you're older.

[Break laughs.]

I was disappointed- hm.

[He watches Break, smiling rather smugly as he thinks of all the little lies Break is likely to tell him. He likes to predict which one it will be, because he's so often wrong. It's like a constantly shifting puzzle.]
