[The device flicks on. Static.

And off. Three seconds, then on again.]

What-

[Then off.

Then to video- there's a shot of someone's elbow, and it's off again.

On. Rap rap rap. Someone's knocking it against a table to see if it can be broken open.]

How many people use this network?

[Already mildly overwhelmed.]

That's...[He pauses in thought]

Tough to say. There's quite a few of us and that fluctuates from time to time.

I suppose it doesn't matter.

[He chuckles.]

Ad-strin-gen-dum. It's what this world has come to be known as. I'm not really sure why. But that's what we call it.

Who knows why anything comes to be known as what it is? Chairs, for example. Someone must have seen the first one, and made sounds at it until one stuck.

Ah--Yes, I suppose that's true. Everything has an origin, whether it's known or isn't.

No one has thought to look up the origin of the word?

Not that I know of. It's not part of any language I know.

Something to look into.

[If only Liam were here.]

I suppose so. Though returning home is top priority for me.

Yet here you are. Haven't had much luck?

[He laughs sheepishly.]

Unfortunately, no. But there are clues occasionally. At any rate, I suppose finding the meaning of the name is something to do in spare time.

Sometimes people come over the network--scientists--they talk about this project and bringing people in and putting them back. It's all very confusing to me.

They're on here?

They can be spoken to?

Yes--but only when they make posts.

I usually just wait to see how people respond to them to find out.

I see.

[More observation is needed. You wouldn't know it from his voice, he sounds utterly mirthful and carefree.]
