[When Lucifer finds himself in Adstringendum again, it takes him an hour or more to make his way back to the most familiar building he knows. Whatever pain he'd felt before is nothing, not even a spark compared to what it is now. It's nearly impossible to think through it, so he runs on instinct. He can sense the other angels in the city, and so he wards the building against them. Not even Michael will be able to sense him in here.

Then he sits on the floor and breathes and finally wonders if anyone is even home. He needs to be steady if there is.]

Lucifer comes home from visiting Al around noon. He liberated some milk from Al's cow, and he takes it to Break after shutting (and locking) the door.

[The morning of the 10th, Break will wake to find the newcomers have all gone. He'll also find the following unfinished note on his kitchen table (unless someone else finds it first) in a familiar, careful hand, written a little larger than normal to accommodate his sight. It's a first draft, given the number of words crossed out and random ink smudges on the page.]

If it's true that I'll be gone within the next few days, then I won't have time to explain what I want to. I don't even know if I want to write this. If what everyone here says is true, time has stopped for both of us back home. We won't have to wait around plotting to rescue the other. Neither of us will have to mourn the other. I guess we can be thankful for that.

But that won't be true for you here; you'll remember that I've gone and I'll never realize that you'd left. I hope you aren't the one who suffers more

You asked what happened back home before. I didn't want to make you worry while there's nothing that you can do about it here, but there's one thing that I need to should tell you. [There's a few smudges of ink on the page here, as though he was tapping it with the edge of the pen while thinking of what he wanted to say.] You're still a fool and an impulsive idiot after all this time. You were so happy to throw your life away in a fight without asking anyone else for help! You have people here and at home that you can go to for help if you need, so use them the next time that you're in trouble! Don't be afraid to ask for their help! Don't ever be so quick to throw that life away again, or the next time that I return I'll give you another good kick to knock you out of it!
